Triumph of the Will and the Cinematic Language of Propaganda (Folding Ideas)
Triumph of the Will is a propaganda film released by the Nazi Party in 1938 intended to promote Nazi-state art as superior to that of all others. This video essay by the YouTuber Dan Olson (Folding Ideas) examines the concept of propaganda in general - everything from simple discussion of ideas to communication and advertisement by corporations and governments - and looks at the incredibly successful ways in which the Nazi Party engaged in propaganda; so successful that our modern perception of the Nazi Party is exactly how they wanted the world to think of and remember them. Olson makes incisive use of several examples across mainstream literature, television and movies to draw a parallel between Nazi propaganda during World War II and modern political and governmental propaganda. In these times, when the public is finding renewed interest such works as 1984 and Brave New World, this video essay is a welcomed addition to our understanding of political influence and submission.
